The natural coir’s salt content often has an EC value of over 4.0 mS/cm, the material is washed with clean, fresh water in Order to reduce the EC value from 0.5 – 1.0 ms/cm depends Upon the customer requirement.
In treated coir (Buffered), first we wash the coir to reduce the Salt content level (EC). Strong positive elements are used to force out the Sodium (Na) and Potassium (K) elements. We use Calcium (Ca) & Magnesium (Mg) to remove the Sodium (Na) and Potassium (K). This buffering process Increases the EC value to more than 3.0 mS/cm and as a Third step, Coir must be washed again with clean fresh Water to remove the salt content to below 0.5 – 1.0 mS/cm.
For sensitive plants, for example during propagation, The salt content is reduced to an EC value of less than 0.5 ms/cm.
